Big Sky's Errand List Gets Shorter This Winter, One Construction Milestone at a Time

Big Sky's first car wash opened in August. Heated storage, a larger veterinary hospital with a permanent animal shelter, and a new upstairs clinic at Big Sky Medical Center are all scheduled to open within roughly five weeks, from mid-December through January. Each new service handles something residents now have to leave the valley for. Only one of the four is open as of today.

The other three have target dates, and each target depends on something specific: a certificate of occupancy, the end of a construction job, or a building schedule that has already moved once. Big Sky Resort has announced November 25 as opening day for the lifts. The new services arrive after that and each comes with a condition attached, so build your winter errands around the conditions behind each date. The headline dates can still move.

The one that's already open, on Iron Loop Road

First Tracks Tires opened a hand car wash to the public on August 3, 2026, at 167-G Iron Loop Road. Explore Big Sky reported that it is the first car wash in Big Sky. According to the same story, an exterior wash costs $45 for anything from a compact sports car to a full-size van, and the system recycles about 70% of its water.

Co-owner Tanner Dunlap told Explore Big Sky that he chose hand washing to protect the paint and ceramic coatings on high-end vehicles. He also described a wash as a cheaper way to freshen a car than a full detail.

The timing matters too. The First Tracks website lists seasonal tire swaps and general maintenance next to the car wash, with online booking for washes. With opening day on November 25, a tire swap and a wash can now happen at the same Iron Loop Road address. The site doesn't post hours or say how the wash runs once the temperature stays below freezing, so call before you count on it for a midwinter wash.

The December and January calendar

Here are the published targets for the other three, in order:

  1. Mid-December 2026. Big Sky Storage expects move-ins around December 15, once it receives its certificate of occupancy.
  2. December 2026. Lone Peak Veterinary Hospital's own page titles its new Westfork Meadows building "New Facility - December 2026!" and says construction is underway.
  3. December 2026, then January. Big Sky Medical Center expects to finish building its second-floor clinic in December and open it to patients in January.

All three land during peak season, when a trip down the canyon is hardest to fit in. Each date also rests on a different condition, so they won't necessarily slip together.

Storage depends on a certificate, not a calendar

Big Sky Storage sits in Gallatin Canyon between Buck's T-4 and the Conoco, and its listed address is 204 Blacksmith Loop. It offers heated, climate-controlled units, including large drive-up bays with lighting and power, and access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The opening date has already moved once. In a sponsored July 30 article, Explore Big Sky put the opening this fall, probably in September or October. In that piece, co-developer Scott Hammond said the facility would serve residents who need year-round storage for recreation gear and valuables. The company's current site now says the building is up, interior work is being finished, and move-in should start around December 15, depending on the certificate of occupancy.

The posted terms are clear. Reserving a unit takes a $49 deposit. One 6-by-5-foot unit lists at $150 a month, with a promotion of two months at $0, and rent starts at move-in, not at reservation. So if the certificate arrives late, the first rent payment moves back with it.

Westfork Meadows gets urgent pet care and a shelter under one roof

The new Lone Peak Veterinary Hospital is on Snowy Mountain Circle, behind Caliber Coffee in Westfork Meadows. When Explore Big Sky covered the groundbreaking in July 2025, the plan included more medical resources, hospitalization with overnight kennels, grooming, training, an animal shelter, and housing for local workers. The same article said adding a second veterinarian would extend operating hours. Founder Dr. Stephanie "Syd" Desmarais described the project as a way to improve access to urgent veterinary care.

The hospital's project page sums up the reasons in a single line: more space, two doctors, urgent care, expanded services, and a new home for the Big Sky Animal Shelter. That last item is what links the building to the wider community. In July 2026, Explore Big Sky reported that RUFF's dedicated shelter was slated to open "this fall." The founder, who also owns the hospital, described fundraising as the way to build a permanent shelter for local pets and families.

The published dates for this building don't match. The 2025 groundbreaking story expected about 18 months of construction from an August 4 start, the July 2026 shelter story said fall, and the hospital's own page title says December 2026. Treat December as the target and keep the current hospital's contact information handy until the doors open.

Upstairs at Big Sky Medical Center, an infusion chair without the canyon drive

Bozeman Health is turning an unfinished part of Big Sky Medical Center's second floor in Town Center into a multipurpose clinic. It is designed for specialty services and IV infusions. In announcing the project, administrator Kelly Halmes put it in the context of the center's recent growth, as Explore Big Sky reported:

"As we enter our 11th year serving Big Sky residents and visitors, we are committed to growing and enhancing health care services to meet the evolving needs of our community."

She also pointed to services the center has added in recent years: transitional care, physical therapy, ultrasound and mental health care. The upstairs clinic continues that pattern, with care that once required a trip out of the valley moving into the building at the center of Town Center. Bozeman Health said the work shouldn't significantly disrupt regular patient care. Access to the upstairs community room may be limited at times, and groups with reservations will get advance notice. Construction is due to finish in December 2026, with patients starting in January. No prices, clinic hours or specialty lineup have been published yet. Your own physician and Bozeman Health are the people to ask about scheduling.

Before you take the Bozeman trip off the calendar

Each of these services can come off your out-of-town list only once its condition is met. Before you plan around one, check:

  • The car wash. Ask First Tracks for winter hours and how washes run in deep cold, and book through the First Tracks site.
  • Storage. Find out whether the certificate of occupancy has been issued before you plan a December move-in, and remember that the $49 deposit holds a unit but rent doesn't start until move-in.
  • The vet hospital. Check whether Snowy Mountain Circle is seeing patients, and whether the shelter moves in at the same time or in a later phase.
  • The clinic. Ask whether the specialty or infusion care you use will be offered upstairs at Big Sky Medical Center once it opens in January.

The new car wash, storage, vet hospital and clinic are all part of how Big Sky works day to day. At Life in Big Sky, we track openings like these through the winter so you can plan your season around what is actually open. Live Big. Connect with our team.
